valeried Posted 17 June , 2005 Share Posted 17 June , 2005 My second cousin has asked if I can find any info on the above soldier. He was her grandfather, but when he and his wife died, their son (my second cousin's father) was placed into the care of a children's home. We know William came from Wales Thank You
Terry_Reeves Posted 17 June , 2005 Share Posted 17 June , 2005 Valerie There is a William Williams listed in Soldiers Died in the Great War: 203155 Pte William Williams 24th Bn Royal Welsh Fusiliers Enlisted Rhyl Died of Wounds 14.9.18. There is a medal index card for this man that shows he also had the number 2465. He appears to have been a territorial. He was the son of Elizabeth and the late William Williams of 43 Wellington Road, Rhyl and was aged 33 when he died. He is buried at Etaples Military Cememtery, France. Simon Furnell Posted 17 June , 2005 Share Posted 17 June , 2005 Hello Valerie. Check out the Long,Long,Trail, above, for more info on the Battalion. That he lost his life so close to the end of the war,is something i can relate to. Fortunately, both my Paternal Grandfather, and Grandmother, never found themselves going into a childrens home after their fathers were killed in the war. Both Mum's survived, and looked after them(a hard life, from what i have learned),and remarried in the 1920's,to ex servicemen. All the best, and good luck in your search. Simon.
