Hello All

I’m researching the medals/orders of Field Marshal, Earl, Sir Archibald Percival, Lord Wavell because I’m trying to reproduce exactly the ribbon group He had for my own collection.

I know that the Orders, Decorations and Medals of Field Marshall Wavell are on permanent display in the Regimental Museum of the Black Watch, at Balhousie Castle, Perth, Scotland.

I have tried to contact this Museum to have the info I required but till now I have had no answer from them.

I researched Him by Google and found something but the list (below indicated) is very superficial regarding the description of the awards given to him. However it is all that I have :

GCB 1941 (KCB 1939 - CB 1935);

GCSI 1943;

GCIE 1943;

CMG in 1919;

MC (WW1) (+ 1 bar ??);

QSA + 4 bars (quali ?);

IGS 1908 + 1 b. 'North West Frontier 1908'

1939-45 Star;

Africa Star;

Pacific Star + bar Burma;

Defence Medal;

WW2 BWM;

France, Legion of Honour (Commander);

Egypt, Order of the Nile (which class ?);

Order of El Nahda 2nd class 1920 (military);

Greece, Order of George I;

Greek Military Cross (WW1 or WW2 ???),

Poland, Virtuti Militari (which class ?);

Ethiopia, Seal of Solomon;

Czechoslovakia, Military Cross;

Netherlands, Order of Orange-Nassau w. swords (which class ???);

USA, Legion of Merit (Ch.C.);

Nepal, Star of Nepal (which class ?);

China, Cloud & Banner (which class ??)

Russia, Orders of St. Vladimir (x WW1 - which class, division type Etc.???) 1917;

Russia, St. Stanislas (x WW1 - which class, division type Etc.???) 1917.

I would like that someone, that has books with his biography or more informations, could correct or addeed the awards that aren’t listed.

However, above all, I would like to have an answer to 2 questions :

1) Was the Greek Military Cross that given for WW1 or that for WW2 ? (I’m asking this because the ribbon of the two crosses are completely different !)

2) Regarding the Chinese order of the Cloud & Banner, I would like to know which class of this Order Wavell received ? (I’m asking this because there are 9 classes of this order each with a different ribbon)

Awaiting to hear from you

Very Kind Regards

Lilo

Have you tried: the Imperial War Museum, 'Who Was Who,' and the Dictionary of National Biography?

The Greek Cross is listed in the London Gazette, Issue 35519, 7 April, 1942, link.

Hello and Thankyou both to have taken time for answering my question.

Unfortunately I haven't the 'Who Was Who' and the Dictionary of National Biography to consult so if you can, please do it for me.

Chris very many thanks for the input.

Regards

Lilo
