I suspect that this is a "private purchase" plaque paid for by the soldiers family. The alternative would be that the French issued something like the British and Empire "Death Plaque".

Does anyone know?

Those plaques are quite common on private graves in cemeteries.

The holes were to fix it in the stone.

There is a possibility this one was stolen in a cemetery :angry:

Shame !

But the state seems quite good. It was protected from

wether injuries.

Do not buy that it will encourage some to go in cemeteries to take some.

I have seen similar things - for civilians - in Italy.

No problem, I was not thinking of buying it. I was just curious
