Halder Posted 11 June , 2005 Share Posted 11 June , 2005 Unlike WW2, WW1 histories of German units are few and far between. So I was delighted to stumble upon John Williams' excellent book by accident in Foyles. It's a study of Hitler and his Bavarian regiment, 'the List Regiment', on the Western Front from 1914-1918, plus a look at the character of the future leader. Plenty of first-hand accounts of battles on the Western Front, especially 1914 and 1915 in Flanders, plus a look at Hitler's post-war fabrication of his war exploits (in particular covering up the fact that a Jewish officer recommended him for the Iron Cross). Well worth investing in if either you're a historian of the Third Reich or the Western Front. Corporal Hitler and the Great War
AOK4 Posted 12 June , 2005 Share Posted 12 June , 2005 It's a pity that there is already an error in the title, Hitler never was a corporal! He was only a Gefreiter, that's more a lance corporal. Jan
