Terry Carter Posted 10 June , 2005 Share Posted 10 June , 2005 Hi folks A lady has contacted me about her father. He enlisted into the 3rd Birmingham Battalion (16th Warwicks) in 1915. He went to France with the 3rd B'ham Bn in November 1915. However at some stage afterwards he transferred in the Royal Engineers. On the Absent Voters List for Birmingham in 1918 it has him listed as:- Sapper Reginald Charles Southey WR276004 R.O.D. RE. Can anyone tell me what the R.O.D. stood for please, and does the WR at the start of his service number indicate anything? Thanks very much Terry p.s his original 3rd B'ham Number was 1353

Stuart Brown Posted 10 June , 2005 Share Posted 10 June , 2005 I always thought it was Railway Operating Division. Stuart
Paul Reed Posted 10 June , 2005 Share Posted 10 June , 2005 I thought it was Railway Operating Department, but I might be wrong. The letters R O D were painted on all their engines, if the photos I have seen are anything to go by.
