Researching a soldier who was K.I.A. on the 28th July 1917, where were the 13th Bn on this date?

Any help appreciated, Kilty.

From D.H.Rowland's For The Duration: The Story of the Thirteenth Battalion The Rifle Brigade (Old Comrades Assoc 1932):

"We were now in the Second Army... moving to the Support Line on the far side of Messines Ridge... Battalion headquarters was at Torreken Farm, overlooked by German observation balloons. A little way behind was the village of Wytschaete... Our duties as Support Battalion included day and night work under the supervision of the Royal Engineers. It was often dangerous work, and one very dark night one of our digging parties was almost wiped out by a salvo of enemy shells. [sadly - doesn't say when!]"

The unit was on Kemmel Hill in late July 1917 (again no dates shown) out on rest until it returned to the line on 1st August.

These are the only details shown; hope it helps.
