Guest Posted 31 January , 2019 Share Posted 31 January , 2019 My grandfather joined the army in Feb 1916, he was a pharmacist and joined the Royal Engineers No.2 Special Company. His name was Edgar John Martin ( no. 209649). He was born in Bristol in 1899. Any further information about his involvement as a gasman would be greatly appreciated. He kept a war diary, but this is held by my cousin.

The Depot had moved from Withnoe at the beginning of 1918. 31.5.18 Arrived at Special Brigade Depot, Helfaut. 7.7.18 Appointed L/Cpl 5.9.18 Admitted to 112 Field Ambulance - wounded, gas (shell). 25.9.18 Discharged from No 3 Convalescent Depot. 27.9.18 Appears to have been at Le Treport for reasons unknown. The entry is too faded to read. 5.10.18 Joined Special Brigade Depot Helfaut. 8.10.18 Rejoined No 2 Company. 13.3.19 To Class Z of The Army Reserve on demobilisation.
