Jonathan Saunders Posted 8 June , 2005 Share Posted 8 June , 2005 I am just about to start Tim Travers book on Gallipoli - the back of the book gets a very big thumbs up from Sheffield, Brown etc - and my primary reason for putting this top of the Gallipoli pile of books to read, is the constant references to the use of Turkish archives I have found in other reviews. Have you read it and what was your opinion on the quality of Travers research?
paul guthrie Posted 8 June , 2005 Share Posted 8 June , 2005 It's absolutely outstanding and he got some really good information from Turkish archives, for instance killing the opinion that 1 more try to force straits with navy would have worked cause the forts were short of ammo - they had plenty. Jonathan Saunders Posted 8 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 8 June , 2005 Thanks Paul, by coincidence I have just read as far as the availability of the Turkish munitions for 19 March - was news to me and I will have to readjust my view on this. (Did not look at Travers source for this ... was just musing whether this could have been the Turks painting a much better picture after the event). Still, impresssed so far.
