Joe Walsh Posted 7 June , 2005 Posted 7 June , 2005 Does anyone have any idea to what kind of company or company my grandad was in when he entered the war in 23-8-15. He was in the RE.
Terry_Reeves Posted 7 June , 2005 Posted 7 June , 2005 Joe There were over 1800 RE units serving in all theatres. The range of units was very large , for example there were Field Companies, the Messenger Dog Service, Army Troops companies. well boring sections, the Army Postal Service, Field Survey Battalions, Electric Light companies, Searchlight companies, the numerous branches of the Signal Service, Printing companies, ect, ect. It is very difficult, and sometimes impossible, to pinpoint the unit of a Royal Engineer. Don't give up though, sometimes you can get lucky. Terry Reeves

Joe Walsh Posted 10 June , 2005 Author Posted 10 June , 2005 Thanks alot I don't hnow how you did it. He wasn't born in Manchester but he did live there before the war. I reckon it is him because his labour coy was formed in sep 1917 in the mory area which is near Fremicourt i think. Just one thing doesn't add up the guy Ivor from the LC said in the routine order is an announcement fo mm on 25 feb 19 but pehaps he made a mistake. You got his reg. no. right so it must be him. You've no idea how much you've helped. Cheers Joe
bernardmcilwaine Posted 10 June , 2005 Posted 10 June , 2005 joe,the date i gave for his MM is probably the date it appeared in the paper, bernard
