Simon Jones Posted 5 June , 2005 Share Posted 5 June , 2005 I have run out of leads on this officer, John (Jackie) Bowen, mainly because his service record has not survived. I have located his MIC and commissioning dates in the London Gazette. Commissioned temp. Lt RE 28/7/15, Joins 179 Coy on 8/8/1915, MC gazetted 31/12/18 By 1919 Acting Captain commanding 254th Tunnelling Company. From another officer’s letter I know his birthday was 2nd September but not his year of birth. His address in the Tunnellers’ Old Comrades Register of Officers 1925 is Niger Mining Development Company, Tudun Wada, Jos, N. Nigeria. He was a Mining Engineer but not in the Royal School of Mines Register and not on the Durham Mining Museum website. The one thing I have yet to do is check the medal roll for an address… Any suggestions? Regards Simon
