Robert Dunlop Posted 3 June , 2005 Share Posted 3 June , 2005 This book is published in a new cover format for Battleground Europe. The content is above average in quality. The author has lived in the area for some while. His familiarity with the local people and the geography comes through. Hancock has very thoroughly researched the Battle of Aubers Ridge. The accounts of the dawn and afternoon attacks are excellent, with details of the German as well as the British and Indian units. Anecdotal reports supplement the details of the Operation Orders and the information from a range of unit histories. There is also a resume of the Battle of Festubert. As you would expect from this series, there are several battlefield tours described in the last chapter. There are plenty of photographs. The barrage maps for the Battle of Aubers were also a plus. Recommended. Robert
