adrianjohn Posted 1 June , 2005 Share Posted 1 June , 2005 I've established the date of death and burial place of 19350 L/Cpl Phipps, 3rd Bn. Coldstream Guards, but his records seem to be among those that went up in smoke during WW2. There are no family records/living relatives who can tell me whether or not he joined up in peacetime or volunteered 'for the duration'. Can any one help? TIA. adrian
stiletto_33853 Posted 2 June , 2005 Share Posted 2 June , 2005 Adrian, Have you contacted the Coldstream Guards at Wellington Barracks. I believe that the Guards kept all the records, they might be able to help you. Andy
adrianjohn Posted 2 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 2 June , 2005 I haven't, Andy. But I will now. Thanks for the tip. adrian
Coldstreamer Posted 4 June , 2005 Share Posted 4 June , 2005 Hello 19350 indicates he joined around 1916. I cant be precise as the regimental number relative to enlist dates arent very accurate the later you go in the war I can tell you he was NOT discharged due to wounds, decorated or commissioned But, the Guards musuem should help you but they charge £20 just to look with no guarantee Regards Ian
