shaymen Posted 1 June , 2005 Share Posted 1 June , 2005 Well here we go. Finally got some info on my Grandfather. Pte G/28080 Edwin Martin 3rd Middlesex - Got his MIC which tells me not a lot. Not entitled to a star so must have joined later - Born in Aug 1898 so would have been too young at the start - he survived the war. No mention on MIC of Theatre of War first served in. I have all the census stuff. All I know is he served in Salonika - I have a mention of attached to Border Regiment ?. One family member mentioned his job as collecting bodies from the battlefield ? I will obviously check for service records when I finally make my forthcoming trip. Can anyone add anything to what I already know - which is not a lot. Thanks Glyn - not very hopeful but who knows. Steven Broomfield Posted 4 June , 2005 Share Posted 4 June , 2005 Glyn. 3rd Middlesex served in Salonika (85th Bed, 28th Divn), as did the 9th Borders, who, as Pioneer Bn for the 22nd Division might have spent some time on battlefield clearance.
