Guest dinger69 Posted 4 July , 2003 Share Posted 4 July , 2003 My Grandfather served in the ASC during WWI and I believe he was in Hong Kong. Does anyone have any information on what ASC units were in the Far East during WWI please?
Chris_Baker Posted 5 July , 2003 Share Posted 5 July , 2003 Michael Young's excellent "Army Service Corps 1902-1918" (pub. Leo Cooper, 2000) lists all ASC Companies. I went through the lot..and at well over a thousand Companies it makes you go goggle-eyed...but no mention of Hong Kong, I'm afraid.
Sue Light Posted 5 July , 2003 Share Posted 5 July , 2003 In the same book, if you go almost to the end [p.365], following on from East Africa/India/ Persia 'Lines of Communication', there is a section entitled 'Colonies and Protectorates'. These include Aden, Ceylon, Mauritius, Malta, and South China Command Hong Kong. There are no companies given, but there is a PRO WO95 reference [battalion War Diary], which is WO95/5444 for Hong Kong - it may shed some light.
