Pals,

I need your help again!

Please send this ebay seller an email, in an effort to stop him from splitting the pair to Cpl. A. Wallace Royal Artilelry. I know this pair is already not complete, the Victory is missing, and an artillery pair may not seem like a big-deal, but they all deserve our respect.

Please lend a hand.

Thanks as always!

David

Well Pals,

I think I went this one on my own. The seller has kindly opted to sell the two medals togethers. And so Mr. Wallace's two remaining medals stay a pair.

Here is the e-mail:

Hi David,

I am so sorry, I had no Idea they went together !!

They came out of a box my husband had put in the attic years ago. We have

been trying to get it and the basement cleared for years !!

I will be happy to stop the auctions and put them on together !!

Thanks for the Info Nancy

Hi David:

First time I've seen this new thread. Would you be kind enough to post the original message you sent to Nancy. Your pitch to stop the splitting seems to have worked, so it would be nice to see what tactics you used on the seller. Thanks.

Garth

Dear Sir,

I did not intend for this email to come across as rude, so please bare

with me. I wanted to bring to your attention that the practice of

"splitting" medal groups (medals named to the same recipient) is a

practice that is regarded as absolutely abhorrent to collectors.

It is usually done by dealers (or others) who know little about what they are

selling. Splitting a group will mean that the soldiers medals, issued

to the recipient some ninety years ago, as a group, will now be

completely destroyed.

Medal dealers sell medals as "groups" always, as

there is a responsibility to keep the medals together (in addition to

the value of the collections being higher as a complete set). Collectors

are regularly heartbroken when finding "singles" in the market, knowing

that the other medals are long since missing. Some of us have had the

unbelievable luck of uniting a pair or even trio over the years, but

this is extremely rare. For me in over twenty five+ years of collecting

Great War service medals have only ever united three groups!

Another point to consider if above is not of any consolation, the value

of the "Wallace" collection to a Great War medal collector, is FAR more valuable as a complete group.

Forgive my passion, as a medal collector I am very saddened to see a

group being split right under my nose.

Respectfully

David
