Just to add to the confusion - the Pte. George Overton killed on 31.7.17 is listed in "Soldiers Died...." as being Labour Corps (12923) but formerly 25125, West Yorks.

CWGC does, indeed, confirm him transferred to 22 Coy Labour Corps (secondary unit info).

Coincidentally, it was only this afternoon when I found similar info on a potential researchee who I had assumed was Cameronians but was actually Labour Corps at date of death

Only found one Overton in my notes regards West Yorks for 1917.

Ernest William, 12th Battalion.

KIA, 9/4/17

Any relation do you think? long shot?

Regards, Chris.

Would one expect George Overton`s medals to be named to the Yorkshire Regt then? And would one expect a Labour Corps man to be at the sharp end on 31/7/17, as we assume he was? Phil B

Found 3 Overtons with the Yorkshire Regt but no George and no numbers anywhere near the one given.

I would guess he was West Yorks then Labour Corps, have come across numerous cases where Yorkshire and West Yorkshire get mixed up in the records and on memorials.

Yorkshires 16th Labour Bn in April 1917 became 22nd & 23rd Labour Coys of the Labour Corps.

16th Bn isnt included in my copy of Soldiers Died for the Yorkshire Regt.

This group`s at £286 with 2 days to go. Am I missing something or is that realistic? Phil B
