PhilB Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 This ebay item:- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW purports to be a trio, but is actually a pair plus a brother`s medal. What I find odd though is that the scroll is made out to George Overton, Labour Corps, though he is described as KIA with the Yorkshire Regt. Any explanation? Tom Morgan Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Just to add to the confusion - the Pte. George Overton killed on 31.7.17 is listed in "Soldiers Died...." as being Labour Corps (12923) but formerly 25125, West Yorks. Tom
John_Hartley Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 CWGC does, indeed, confirm him transferred to 22 Coy Labour Corps (secondary unit info). Coincidentally, it was only this afternoon when I found similar info on a potential researchee who I had assumed was Cameronians but was actually Labour Corps at date of death

PhilB Posted 28 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 28 May , 2005 Would one expect George Overton`s medals to be named to the Yorkshire Regt then? And would one expect a Labour Corps man to be at the sharp end on 31/7/17, as we assume he was? Phil B
Bob Coulson Posted 28 May , 2005 Share Posted 28 May , 2005 Found 3 Overtons with the Yorkshire Regt but no George and no numbers anywhere near the one given. I would guess he was West Yorks then Labour Corps, have come across numerous cases where Yorkshire and West Yorkshire get mixed up in the records and on memorials. Bob.
