Remembered Today:

Terence and Roy Street, Belfast

Apparently this question is not directly related to the Great War, and strictly spoken for that reason should not be here on this Forum. Yet, as for me it is intimately related to a Great War soldier research ...

Is there anybody in Belfast or in the Belfast area who can tell me where exactly Terence Street and Roy Street are in Belfast. Or better : were. I cannot find them on a modern on-line Belfast map. These streets apparently existed at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

- Roy street (there is a Joy street now, but I doubt if this is the same) was on or near the west bank of the River Lagan

- I have no idea where Terence Street may have been.

A supplementary question : is it true that "Ballymacarrett" is east of the river Lagan ? (I learned there is a town(land) / ward / catholic parish Ballymacarrett, and this looks awfully complicated to me !)

I hope that someone can help me out, though if this looks like nothing but a detail, it seems crucial in my research.

Hi Aurel

I live in Belfast and I have not heard of the streets you talk about, but it should not be too difficult for me to find out where and when they exsited. I have plenty of old street maps and resources.

I do know of Joy street though. I dont think that its the Roy street that you are looking for.

Ballymacarrett is in East Belfast if thats what you mean by the "East side of the Lagan"

What is it that you are resesearching? Maybe my website at www.belfastsomme.com can help you out.

Hi Billy,

Thanks for your reply.

As this is rather technical, and actually not related to the Great War (and so not really interesting for Great War enthusiasts), I will contact you off Forum.
