Doug Lewis Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Remembering today my Great Uncle James Badger 31270 Private 2nd Btn East Lancashire Regiment, killed in action on today's date 1918. War Diary for that date. 1am. Heavy bombardment commenced apparently along the whole front and on the back areas. The Battalion stood to and shortly afterwoods orders were received for HQ and B and D companies to proceed at 3am from Guyencourt to Gerincourt Wood, where they were in Brigade Reserve. Fighting continued throughout the day,no news being received by the details concerning the Battalion or concerning the Division except by the end of the day our line (Divisional) was approximatley east of Rouey,Bouffignerreux,Chalons,Lavergeur. At some point during the day James was among those members of his battalion who were killed in action. It would appear that his final resting place was not known and he was not afforded a burial, which so many of his comrades received. His name is recorded on the Soissons Memorial to the Missing of the 1918 Battles of the Aisne and the Marne. Rest in Peace James Regards Doug.
