Ross Bannister Posted 25 May , 2005 Share Posted 25 May , 2005 Hi WW1 Buffs! Please, can anyone tell me where 95th Brigade, 5th Division were in early January 1917. Any of the following: 1st Devons, 12th Gloucesters, 1st East Surreys, 1st DCLI or 95 MGC. Please help to break down my 'brick wall'! Cheers Ross
Hambo Posted 26 May , 2005 Share Posted 26 May , 2005 Hi Ross I have a divisional history but it looks like things were pretty "quiet". They were in the area of Bethune. The closest I can get for the 95th is Cuinchy. They seem to have spent the whole winter in this area. Plenty of sniping etc but the first raid doesn't seem to have taken place till the February. All the best Hambo
Ross Bannister Posted 27 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Thanks Hambo, I appreciate the reply. Yes, I downloaded 1st Devons & 1st East Surrys War Diaries for January 1917 from the PRO yesterday and, although there is no mention of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, they were indeed in a quiet area around Givency/Bethune. I'll have to keep trying to find a War Diary for the 95th COY MGC. Thanks, once again. Ross
