Hi Mandy

If you have the time I would be very appreciative to get a photo of the two following Fremantle soldier's grave in Etaples.

No.5754 - Sgt Arthur Mudie MM - 44th Battalion Died of Wounds 6th of December 1917 - XXXI.B.22A

No.5383 - Pte David Main - 16th Battalion - Died of Disease 04/07/1916 - III.B.55.

In a tragedy for his family, both of David's brothers were to be killed in action in the month after he died.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Mandy,

Sgt Reginald Davies

1826 Lincolnshire Reg (1/5th Bn)

19.10.15

III.E.7

(from Louth in Lincolnshire)

Cpl George Thomas Slater (26)

2136 Lincolnshire Reg (1/5th Bn A Coy)

17.10.15

III.E.3

(from Paddington London, but living in Grimsby)

Both of the above were casualties from the 46th Division attack on the Hohenzollern Redoubt (Loos) 13.10.15

Pte John (Jim) Juggings (23)

Jim was wounded on 31.07.15. near Sanctuary Wood. I am in contact with Jim’s nephew George.

From the Bn war Diary

'At 2.15 a.m. Very heavy artillery bombardment on German trenches at Hooge. At 3.30 a.m. the 41st Bde was attacked & retired to Zouave Wood & was driven out. Wood was recaptured by same Bde at 4.5 a.m. Our own Bde frontage was very quiet all day. A few trench mortar bombs landed in 49 at about 8.20 p.m. but did no damage. Tel. Communication was interrupted with observation station at 9 p.m. but was repaired again shortly afterwards.

Work Done:- Parapets and traverses repaired. C.Ts cleaned and grids laid 1st Aid dugout continued. Dugouts commenced in 49.

Casualties:- No 2217 Pte Hewson, D & 2101 Pte Juggins (sic) both wounded by our own shrapnel. No 2117 L/Cpl Cosslett, No 2723 Pte Smith A.H. & No 2738 Pte Aldows all wounded by trench mortar.'
