Guest bruckshaw Posted 23 May , 2005 Share Posted 23 May , 2005 My father Pte Herbert MILLWARD served in the 2/6th Battalion of the Royal Warwickshires. He was wounded on active service about 1918 and was captured by the Germans who amputated his leg. He was later in the Alder Hey Military hospital in UK. He was discharged in Feb 1919. This is really all I know about his war service except that he enlisted originally in the Cheshires. I do have his service number in both Regiments, R Warks 29124 and 62221 Cheshires. He never spoke about his experiences so I do not know which battles he was in or where he was wounded. He was born March 1898 so I imagine he enlisted in 1916 Can you suggest where I might find more details please.?
Doug Lewis Posted 23 May , 2005 Share Posted 23 May , 2005 bruckshaw Have you done as advised above: BE SURE TO READ THIS: if you are about to ask questions about how to find a soldier's service record, make sure you have first visited "Grandad's War" at The Long, Long Trail website. There's a link to it at top-left of this page. Be sure to read at least "The Basics", "Service Papers" and "Grandad's Medals". Then, if your questions remain unanswered, come back here. Go here to download your fathers M.I.C. http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...1&resultcount=1 and here for more information on The Royal Warwickshire Regiment http://www.1914-1918.net/warwicks.htm Regards Doug. Guest bruckshaw Posted 23 May , 2005 Share Posted 23 May , 2005 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks Doug, I downloaded the medal card but there was little new there as I already have the medals (not the SWB). Do the service numbers provide any clue as to the date of enlistment (or transfer)?. I will also have another look at his letters from the German hospital to give me a better clue about the time of his wounding.
