Remembered Today:

T number prefix for RE man.

The man's number was Sapper 488311 Samuel Jukes, but it was changed to Sapper T1252, according to his MIC. Does this indicate he was a Tunneler?

Cheers,

Duncan.

Duncan,

I think it is more likely that the 'T' indicates he was a Territorial. And it is likely that the numbers are in the wrong order i.e. T1252 predates 488311.

Numbers between 488001 and 490000 were allocated to 2nd North Midlands Fd Coy (raised by the Staffordshire County Territorial Association) when TF numbers changed in early 17.

I have seen 'T' prefixes and suffixes to pre-1917 TF numbers in RE records and I have also found RE medal records to be among those where the order of numbers is sometimes jumbled.

Can you post an image of the MIC? Someone might be able to add more.

Jock
