The Guardroom Posted 23 May , 2005 Share Posted 23 May , 2005 Hi all, Have reposted this request for info in the correct topic area now, as advised it may get a better chance of reviewing by forum members. As like many trying to find any info in my Gt Grandfather who died of wounds on 4th November 1916, whilst with the 1st Bn Middlx Regt. I have tried the NRA but unfortunately no service records found. Did find medal roll etc to confirm his number . Born in Nottinghill and lived enlisted in Harefield. Buried at Grovetown Cmty on Somme. Have also got info from the Die Hard site on the 1st Bn and managed to gain some info here. Info I am really trying to find out is: Date of enlistment (if known from his service number) Where he could have been at the time of his wounding (Info to date from other members is Rainy or dew drop trench on 28/10/16 infront of Le Transloy?) What his wounds were that killed him (long shot I know) Any 1901 census information: Born 1878 / living in Nottinghill or Harefield, Middlesex in 1901 / Occupation was labourer - brick maker / married to Mary Louise Gowlett (not sure if before 1901) / Father William Evans (another easy-uncommon name) . Know that this is a long shot for such info through the forum, but never know if someone can help unless you ask. Many thanks and any information is always appreciated. Stebie9173 Posted 23 May , 2005 Share Posted 23 May , 2005 There is a Mary L Gowlett listed age 15 (b 1886) on the 1901 Census as living at Harefield, born Uxbridge Middlesex. Niece of William and Annie Norwood. This is probably William Evans wife to be. There is also a Mary Louisa Gowlett, but born and Married at Rochford, Essex. Probably not the person you're looking for... Steve.

Possible father and mother: William Evans, 55, General Labourer, born Iver, Bucks, residing Norwood, Middlesex Catherine Evans, 55, born Iver, Bucks, residing Norwood, Middlesex This info was obtained through narrowing down searches using age, marital condition, relationship, etc. You'll need to find someone who has access to get the download. The Guardroom Posted 24 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 24 May , 2005 Thank you Steve / Stuart. I guess this has to be them living in Norwood by 1901. Something else I did not know. Definately Mary though. Many thanks, Alan
