George Armstrong Custer Posted 20 May , 2005 Share Posted 20 May , 2005 Sounds interesting - is the author the same John Polock who has written biographies of General 'Chinese' Gordon and Kitchener? If so, then his work is impressive. Ciao, GAC This Book{let} is available from Mr John Pollock, the Author,of Perranwell Station,Truro,Cornwall,TR3 7PF @ £3.99 +53p P&P. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 21 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2005 As far as I know he is not the same Author,he only wrote of Doox when he learned of his relationship through his Mother,Doox was her Cousin,& I think it is more a one off labour of love. HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 9 June , 2005 Hello What is Doox connection with Downham Market? Sandra <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Doox lived @ Bexwell St Mary's Rectory from 1911,His widower Father was Curate there{his mother had died in 1899,two years after Doox was born @ Colkirk},The actual Downham Connection is that Mr Doox Senior Commissioned a Local corn merchant:George Smith of Downham to produce the Doox Commemorative Book with its Illuminated Pages,The Photographs in the book are mounted on silk from his {Doox's} Mothers Wedding dress,The covers are made of Wood from Bexwell Rectory Garden ,A Gold Cross On the Book's Cover is made from Gold from his Mothers Wedding ring. The cross that originally marked his Grave is hanging in Bexwell Church, along with a White marble memorial, there is a joint White Marble Commemorative Memorial @ the site of the boundary of Bexwell & Ryston,to Doox & his childhood friend Lionel Henry Pratt, son of the Squire of Ryston Hall, who was killed exactly a year prior to his chum Doox. SandraB Posted 15 June , 2005 Share Posted 15 June , 2005 Thanks for that information. My great great grandad was a corn and seed merchant in Downham Market during the early 1900s (but he wasn't called George Smith). Sandra
