Michael Lowrey Posted 20 May , 2005 Share Posted 20 May , 2005 Corby, The Stanley was a 3987 grt steamer of the Pyman S.S. Co. Ltd that was built in 1914. She was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic 230 miles WxN from Fastnet Rock (50°50'N, 16°W or so) by the German submarine U 24 while on a voyage from Newports News, VA, USA for Cherbourg, France with a cargo of grain. 8 lost.
