Guest FRANKBARTHOLOMEW Posted 22 May , 2005 Share Posted 22 May , 2005 Stellan, I have XIX Corps as being commanded by Lieutenant General Herbert Watts. The nearest person who matches the name that you've given me is Brigadier General Francis Lyon, who was a Brigadier General (General Staff). Perhaps he was BGGS to XIX Corps? Anyone else able to help?
armourersergeant Posted 22 May , 2005 Share Posted 22 May , 2005 I seem to recall that a Brig-Gen. Lyon was once a CoS to VII coprs under General Snow. Not sure if this is the same man! regards Arm.
armourersergeant Posted 22 May , 2005 Share Posted 22 May , 2005 (edited) Just checked Dr John Bournes list of General officer on the western front, over 1200, and the only list Lyon was Francis Lyon BGGS. So seems the info you have is wrong. Where did you get it? regards Arm. Ps just checked my notes Lyon was certainly CoS in 1915 and until end 1916 atleast of VII coprs under Snow. Stellan Bojerud Posted 22 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 22 May , 2005 Lyon I got across his name when researching LtCol Ivor Thord Gray: HQ 19 Corps 19/4/17 Dear Hawkey. I send the enclosed cutting from the ”Weekly Dispatch” as I am told that Col Thord Gray is an undesirable character. He was out here with 23rd Division and was sent home on account of certain incidents in his past career wich came to light. I never heard of him till today, but if the F.O wish to inform themselves about him they had better found out from the 23rd Division through the W.O. - - - Lyon Cold Lyon be COS of 19.Corps?
