Paul Hederer Posted 19 May , 2005 Share Posted 19 May , 2005 Here is another war memorial, this one in my wife's village of Engelstadt, near Mainz. Engelstadt is a very small village, and again I was struck by how much smaller it may have been in 1914. There are 24 names on the memorial. The bottom two pictures are close-ups of the reverse side of the monument, and from top to bottom, a few of the names there appear in both photos. Sorry for the poor quality of the close-ups. Engelstadt Memorial 1914-1918 Anticipating the good questions generated about the last memorial, I'll add that gest.i.Laz is gestorben im Lazarett or dead (died) in hospital Paul
Neil Mackenzie Posted 19 May , 2005 Share Posted 19 May , 2005 Paul. Nice picture - thanks for posting it. Do you know what stone it is made of? Thanks. Neil
