CROONAERT Posted 19 May , 2005 Share Posted 19 May , 2005 Hi There, I am researching 203436 Pte Joseph Lawley 1/4th South Lancashire Regiment who Died of Wounds 15-7-17. I believe this was due to being gassed ! Could anyone please help with any information regarding this ? Cheers Tim. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The regimental history mentions the night of 12th/13th (Friday 13th!) July 1917 when 3 or 4,000 shells containing the "new" Mustard gas were fired into Ypres. By the evening of the 13th, 11 officers and 255 OR's had been sent to hospital, of which 1 officer and 7 ORs subsequently died due to the gas poisoning. Hope that's of some help. Dave.
