Here we go -

Charles Childs Pte 43670 (Got his MIC) 1/7th Bn Middlesex Regiment.

Part of the 56th London Division on the Long Long Trail.

Taken Prisoner on 28th April in OPPY WOOD as states on the back of the postcard -see pic.

I have just been speaking to his son who says he remained prisoner throughout the rest of the war- not on POW database.

Any help / info on this would be greatly appreciated -

Any pics / maps (old or new) of Oppy wood ( Did a search but many old pics are still not seen.)

Glyn,

Pte Charles Childs was not serving with the 1/7th Middlesex when he was captured. He was with C Coy of the 17th Middlesex.

Thanks - so was he with the 2nd Division on the 28th during the Battle of Arleux ? How did you work out he was in the 17th as his MIC details clearly state the 1/7th.

Glyn,

He originally enlisted in 1/7th but he was then posted to the 17th. See

BW & VM Roll- WO 329-1502. He also features in RED CROSS LIST No 14

I have sent you a PM, please let me know if it hasn't come through OK.

Regards,

Many thanks for the e-mail - Fantastic stuff.

I need to speak to his son again - want to try and find out more about his time spent as a prisoner.
