mordac Posted 30 June , 2003 Share Posted 30 June , 2003 Hi All: In a couple of threads, Paul Reed has mentioned the forgotten memorial to the 44th Bn. on Vimy Ridge. The original plaque was returned to Winnipeg, home of the 44th. A new plaque, dedicated to the 44th, was put on a memorial in the city's Vimy Ridge Park. On the other three sides of the memorial, there are plaques listing the names of Officers, NCO's, and OR's who lost their lives at Vimy, The Triangle, and La Coulotte. There are also two WWII memorials dedicated to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (Little Back Devils) and 12th Manitoba Dragoons located in the park. Attached is a picture of the rededicated memorial. Paul Reed Posted 30 June , 2003 Share Posted 30 June , 2003 This is very similar to the original - thanks to Al Lines for this photo; I will be adding an article on this memorial to my website soon.
mordac Posted 30 June , 2003 Author Share Posted 30 June , 2003 Hi Paul: Many thanks for posting the picture of the original memorial! I've got a set of photos with the three plaques containing the names of the members of the 44th. If you can use them, I'll e-mail them to you.
