stan Posted 11 May , 2005 Share Posted 11 May , 2005 Anyone know anything more about this derelict DFW surrounded by a 3sqn AFC working party? Especially the distinctive markings.
Dolphin Posted 11 May , 2005 Share Posted 11 May , 2005 Stan The photograph was featured in the US-based journal Over The Front Volume 19 No 1 in an article about No 3 Sqn AFC. There's a suggestion that it may be the DFW C.V flown by Leutnants Petz and Möser of Flieger Abteilung (A) 291, who were forced down by Capt R G D Francis and Lt R Ainsworth of No 3 Sqn, who were flying in RE 8 A4597 (while observing for the 263rd Siege Battery, RGA) on 1 April 1918. The DFW came down between Poperinghe and Vlamertinghe at about 1200 hrs. But perhaps it isn't. Regards Gareth
stan Posted 12 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 12 May , 2005 Thanks Dolphin, Its is more than I've had so far. The photos belong to me and were taken by Harold Edwards the last survivor of the AFC who died aged 102 a few years back. He was a good friend of mine for the last ten years of his life - hence my "inheritance" of the numerous photos.
