eyman Posted 22 December , 2005 Share Posted 22 December , 2005 Patrick I'm catching up with old postings on the list. The theory that this man may have been Essex Yeomanry works for me: James Duggan 34156 Pte, Essex Regt [he was therefore part of a large block that transferred from EY to Essex Regt, mainly 1st and 9th Bns in Dec 1916] 646978 Labour Corps BWM/VM (WO329/1871) I believe he can be identified with a Cpl J Duggan who appears in a photo of 3/1st EY in June 1915 (he would have reverted to Private on going to the front). His rank might easily have been garbled, whether or not deliberately, in transmission. What is the source and date of your reference? Ian I have on my lists one James Duggan a "Squadron Quartermaster Sergeant" in the Essex Regt, I have never heard of this rank, anybody know Patrick
