Guest 3RAR Posted 10 May , 2005 Share Posted 10 May , 2005 Hoping that someone will have the resources to check on John. He was born in 1891,hailed from Manchester, and information that relatives have supplied advise he was in the RAF. He was my grandfathers older brother (grandad was in the British Army in W.W.1) so I am assuming John may have been either in the army & transferred to the RFC or went straight into the RFC. Given his date of birth it is possible he served in WW1. Unfortunately, being in Australia I do not have ready access to records available in the U.K. Here's hoping Gary
Stebie9173 Posted 10 May , 2005 Share Posted 10 May , 2005 On the Medal Index Cards there are 2 John Dawsons with RAF service: John Fraser Dawson (Not our man) and John Dawson Northumberland Fusiliers, Reg No. 470 Royal Air Force, Regimental Number 139104 The link to the MIC is here: http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...1&resultcount=2 Could this be our man? The usual warnings apply about not making assumptions in this game... What battalion was the brother in? Of course, Service Records would probably be the only real proof of a link. Steve.
