Remembered Today:

W.R. Collins RAF Northern Russia 1919

Hello,

I recently purchased a single BWM to Lt. William Robert Collins RAF. He was MID and awarded the Order of St. Stanislas for his services in Northern Russia.

Does anyone have any further information? He was a probationary pilot in the 1918 RAF list, so I assume a late war pilot. He is not mentioned in Ira Jones' memoir.

Thanks!

James

As he was a Lt, that suggests prior service. Have you gone through the Army lists and also searched for his RAF and army records of service at Kew?

I will order a records search to see if he had any previous service. The records I have received in the past have not had a lot to say about specific squadrons. Perhaps someone will recognize his name from a journal or book... just to offer a bit more history.

Several years ago I did a lot of research into RAF personnel in North Russia when I was researching gas bombs (which the RAF dropped). I have the following:

William Roberts Collins

FO Administrative Officer 1/4/18 (RAF List Sept 1919)

Syren Command (Murmansk)

listed as Base Staff, HQ RAF Medeveya Gora, August 1919

awarded Order of St Stanislaus 3rd Class & Swords

MiD LG 22/12/19

My notes have Roberts not Robert but this may be my mistake.

Regards

Simon
