Andrew Hesketh Posted 29 June , 2003 Share Posted 29 June , 2003 Whilst 'surfing' for teaching ideas I came across this site: http://www.activehistory.co.uk/GCSE/wulfsw...w1/frameset.htm It may or not be of any interest directly, but I thought it quite interesting and, for those of you who seem unhappy with the way we teacher's deal with the war (see occasional inflammatory postings......) here's something for you consider and praise / whinge about. All the best, Andrew P.S. Guest Hill 60 Posted 29 June , 2003 Share Posted 29 June , 2003 The site concerning the Old Boys of Wolverhampton Grammar School is impressive. I wish we had something on these lines when I was at school. However, my occasional (hopefully not inflammatory) postings regarding teaching methods relates to when I was being taught WWI at school, 24 years ago. Kate Wills Posted 29 June , 2003 Share Posted 29 June , 2003 for those of you who seem unhappy with the way we teacher's deal with the war (see occasional inflammatory postings......) I'm far more inflamed by the way you teachers deal with apostrophes..! As an aside, I once stood at Tyne Cot listening to the leader of a school group explaining to his charges that General Haig was responsible for the "Race to the Sea" in 1917. When asked what the purpose of the Race to the Sea was, he thought deeply and said it was to protect the shipping lanes. The students were no wiser. I would add that I have also seen excellent teachers in action with groups on the Western Front.
ianw Posted 29 June , 2003 Share Posted 29 June , 2003 Yes, I like the W.G.S site a lot. Because it presents data for the students to interprete in their own way - and what data it is - casualty information from your own school ! Excellent. Andrew Hesketh Posted 29 June , 2003 Author Share Posted 29 June , 2003 Lee, I wa'sn't havin'g a go at anyone in particular, just bein'g a bit mischevious really! All the best', Andrew P'.S' - Iv'e always hated apostrophes'. I' dont' really know what to do with them'. I sort of got lost at verbs, and adverbs may as well be an offshoot from quantum theory for all the sense they make to me.
