AndyHollinger Posted 6 May , 2005 Share Posted 6 May , 2005 I have done my search first ... I am reading Keegan's splendid little biography of W Churchill ... and since I am taking a week-long course on Winston this summer - Washington and Lee University's Alumni College (if anyone is interested, let me know - it's great) ... I was wondering what the thinking is on his history of the Great War ...
DirtyDick Posted 6 May , 2005 Share Posted 6 May , 2005 Hello Andy I bought these two volumes quite some time ago. They are rather interesting - particularly if you have an interest in the naval side of WW1, if only because they give an account of his tenure as FL Admiralty and proposed naval operations (e.g. Baltic landings) and general pre-war planning and strategy. However, WSC does of course do much to defend himself against Gallipoli-related criticism by placing much of the blame on the Army and Kitchener; and, as ever, he will use five words were one will suffice. Richard IMO, interesting reading in their own right
andigger Posted 6 May , 2005 Share Posted 6 May , 2005 Not sure how to comment, other than before we read Churchill's minor work on WWII in college the professor cautioned us to be alert for Churchill's self justifying approach. We never developed that perspective in the class discussion, but it always stuck with me. BTW... are you coming to W&L for that course?
