Remembered Today:

Discharge papers

A friend has asked me to try and find some info regarding a relatives discharge papers, The question she asks is why would a section of the papers be "blacked out" as if to try and hide something that was written down.

The person whose papers are in question was was George Todd Craigie, a fitter with the RAF and was killed in an " accident " at an RAF training base in Montrose on the 24th June 1937, He was not buried by the miliary and lies in an unmarked grave in in his home town of Glasgow. Also where discharge actually issued to someone who was killed whilst serving with the military

I know its not exactly WW1 but I was hoping someone could shed some light on the subject !!

Many Thanks

John Todd

My father was killed in an accident and when I applied for his papers some of the information was cut out... this was because I was illegitimate and I wasnt allowed to see/entitled to certain information. In this case it was his wife's name and not my mothers.

In essence it was a form of censorship
