Lt. V.W. Nutkins

Wonder if anybody can help with this one. Tried to find out something about him on my last visit to PRO with no success. This info is from CWGC.

Lt. Vernon William Nutkins 21 Squadron RFC (Royal Scots Fusiliers)

Died 19/2/18 aged 20 years Buried Ismalia Cemetery Egypt.

Parets home address is Parsons Green London SW.

Squirrel. Nutkins appears to have been attached from the RFC to the Royal Scots Fusiliers.

21 squadron did not go to Egypt, however the 1/4th RSF did, departing from there in April 1918.

This is confirmed by Officers Died that lists Nutkins but does not specify his battalion.

He is listed as killed rather than KIA or Died etc.

This usually means as a result of an accident of some sort.

Thanks for this-don't mind the pun at all and it seems likely that he may have been a relative but of course I'll have to do some more research on him.

Lt V W Nutkins of No 21 Training Squadron RFC (formerly 1st Bn, Royal Scots Fusiliers) was killed in an accident while flying in a Maurice Farman 'Shorthorn' on 19 February 1918. No 21 Training Squadron was based in Egypt.

In addition to the information posted by Dolphin;

Lt. Nutkins was 20 years old and a native of Parsons Green, London.

He is buried at Ismailia, Egypt.
