Dolphin Posted 4 May , 2005 Share Posted 4 May , 2005 Malcolm Lt P McCaig was flying Sopwith Camel B6421 of No 54 Sqn when he was shot down near Cambrai on 27 September 1918. He left on a Special Bombing mission at 1135 (which probably means that his flight was sent out to bomb something in particular, rather than a target of opportunity) and later became involved in combat with 10-12 enemy aircraft; B6421 was last seen spinning out of control from 2000 feet at about 1210hrs. Three German fighter pilots were credited with a victory which may be B6421: Ltn Hermann Vallendor of Jasta 2; Ltn Fritz Rumey of Jasta 5; and Ltn Ernst Bormann of Jasta 2. I hope this helps.
