steve140968 Posted 2 May , 2005 Share Posted 2 May , 2005 Can anyone please tell me where i might be able to access a detailed map ( small towns etc ) of the western front / northern France so that i can accurately plot my grandfathers movements during the great war . Many thanks , Steve .
Ken Lees Posted 2 May , 2005 Share Posted 2 May , 2005 Steve, Are you looking for a modern map or a contemporary one? Ken
steve140968 Posted 2 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 2 May , 2005 Either i think Ken , as long as i was able to pinpoint small towns etc where he would have been . I will be seeing my uncle ( his son ) who is in his 80's very soon so it would be nice to show him his fathers movements . Regards , Steve . Mat McLachlan Posted 4 May , 2005 Share Posted 4 May , 2005 Steve, Michelin map 236 is an excellent map of the whole British sector of the Western Front, from the Ypres Salient to the Somme and beyond. At 1:200,000 it's useful for planning a route between towns, but the IGN blue series (1:25,000 scale) are better for more detailed study. Check out www.map-world.co.uk for more info. Mat McLachlan Posted 4 May , 2005 Share Posted 4 May , 2005 Also... if you want to do some planning online, check out www.viamichelin.com or www.mapquest.co.uk Both sites have searchable maps of France and driving directions between towns - useful for planning a journey.
