SACHSE- Canadian WW1 soldier's surname

This man was a WW1 Canadian soldier, born in Hong Kong.

I wonder what the origin of his name is. French, German, Swiss or....?

Any ideas?

Sachse is German and means Saxon (in English); but I can assure you it was and never will be used as a surname

Sorry but it certainly was used as a surname. I have seen his Canadian attestation papers. Mind you, that does not mean that this was the name he was born with.

However, he appears with this name both in the Canadian WW1 Archives and also as an RSM, Edmonton Regiment, in WW2.
