Tom Morgan Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 It's all in the title really. Can anyone tell me which part of France the 26th Infantry Regiment came from? As always. I'd be grateful for any answers. Tom
Robert Dunlop Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Tom, The Regimental history refers to 'la caserne Thiry', which I believe is the Thiry barracks in Nancy. Robert

Tom Morgan Posted 26 April , 2005 Author Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Many thanks, Robert and TD60. You have both confirmed that the 1914 garrison was at Nancy - excellent. Now, I don't know much about how the French Army recruited. If the regiment was based in Nancy, would it be a correct assumption that its recruits (conscripts) came from the Nancy area? Would either of you happen to know? Tom
Robert Dunlop Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 It seems a fair assumption but I really don't know. Sorry I can't help on this one. Robert
TD60 Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Hello again, I say Yes but I am not 100% sure. I mean it was the general case but there were maybe some exceptions ? Regards
