swizz Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Wondered if anyone here could help me with a bit of information. I'm interested in an officer - Brigadier-General Ambrose Ricardo - who was born at Gatcombe House, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire. He serves in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers for many years and ends up married to an Irish woman and living in County Tyrone. What I would be interested in is knowing what the local paper would be for this area of Gloucestershire, and where I would be able to find it. Every so often I am in Bristol - would the Bristol papers cover Gloucestershire, or is it too far south? Thanks for any assistance Swizz

Chunkeroo Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Swizz Cheltenham Library hold all the back copies of the Gloucestershire Echo on microfilm. Also bound copies of The Cheltenham Chronicle and Gloucestershire Graphic. This is in the form of photo's taken during WW1 and always worth a look. If your man was killed or wounded his picture is very likely in it. I have found several of my men in here. He usually had to be living in Glioucestershire at the time of enlistment though, to be considered "local". Regards Clare
swizz Posted 26 April , 2005 Author Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Thanks! I might have to persuade the other half that a trip up that direction would be in order... Swizz
Glosters Posted 27 April , 2005 Share Posted 27 April , 2005 If you visit Cheltenham, there is a militaria shop in Suffolk Road, not too far from the Boy's College. www.qcmilitaria.com Steve
