182 CEF Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 A friend of mine found a Victory Medal in a hedge last week, it is very worn and he can only make out the the name.. " I Found this in a hedge row in a place called Saighton, which is on the outskirts of Chester England. I Can only make out "te H SMALLWOOD" Can you find out anything about him?" I know there is not much info, he will try to make out the Regt and number. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thank you Dean
hmsk212 Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Dean There are 13 Pte H Smallwoods on the National Archive Website so any number/part number will help to narrow it down Steve

Greenwoodman Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Smallwood seems to be a Cheshire name. There were 3 Smallwood casualties from Sandbach in Cheshire. Carl's Cam lists two H Smallwood(s) http://www.carlscam.com/

Paul Nixon Posted 27 April , 2005 Share Posted 27 April , 2005 Ironic for a small wood to be found in a hedge. You'd normally expect it to be the other way around.
ianw Posted 27 April , 2005 Share Posted 27 April , 2005 Possible Scenario - Medals stolen many years ago. Silver BWM kept , "worthless" VM thrown into hedge ? Perhaps a Star is somewhere in the hedge as well !
