Patrick H Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 Morning all, Can anyone assist with info on The Queens Regt Royal Fusiliers. A friends father served with them in Ypres but he has no other info for his visit there soon. Details I have found are: Private WILLIAM AMBROSE, Reg No 202933 All his father ever told him was that he was in Ypres in 1917-1918 What I would like info on is:- how many battalions of the Regt were there; their location/movements in 1917 etc etc Patrick H
Stebie9173 Posted 26 April , 2005 Share Posted 26 April , 2005 William Ambrose was in the Royal Fusiliers and also the Queens Regiment (Royal West Surreys) - 2 separate regiments. He would have been transferred from one to the other at some point. http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchive...1&resultcount=1 His Royal Fusiliers Regiment number was GS/98957. If he was in the Queens Regiment in 1917 (and his TF (Territorial Force) re-number suggests he was, at least at some point after 1-3-1917) it looks like he would have been in the 3/4th TF Battalion (provided that he was at Ypres) as they were the only Queens Regiment TF Battalion posted to France during the War. They were in 62nd Brigade, 21st Division (from 9 August 1917) http://www.1914-1918.net/21div.htm If he was in the Royal Fusiliers at the time the 2nd & 4th Regular Battalions were at Ypres. However, his TF number in the Queens might suggest that he was a TF in the Royal Fusiliers. In which case the 1/1st, 1/2nd, 1/3rd & 1/4th TF Battalions of the London regiment which were affiliated with the Royal Fusilers were all at Ypres in the 56th Division. http://www.1914-1918.net/56div.htm I hope this helps.
