Remembered Today:

Behind the wire

I have long believed that my GGrandfather Woolf Phillips was a prisoner of War in ww1. The reason for this is that when he eventually came home from the War his wife had remarried !!!!:rolleyes: I would have thought he may ave ben reported MIA.

I think his "wife" was only common law as I have been unable to find a marriage certificate. I searched through the Behind the Wire section and found H Phillips Lancashire Fusiliers Merbes...

My GGrandfather was in the Lancashire Fusiliers 242091... I suppose its possible that the H could be a typo ??

Hi Steve

Michael Moynihan in Black Bread and Barbed Wire (Leo Cooper, 1978) states that over 170 000 men were POWs. The Behind The Wire section has details of approximately 8 000 POWs and therefore only covers about 5% of the POWs. So the "H" may not be a typo.

Regards

Steve
