KONDOA Posted 23 April , 2005 Share Posted 23 April , 2005 Hoskins was at one time in charge of the 8th Brigade at Ypres and later turns up in East Africa until early 1917 before taking up a new command. What was that new command?? Roop
Koots Posted 24 April , 2005 Share Posted 24 April , 2005 Hello Roop From: http://muse.jhu.edu/demo/northeast_african.../6.1simpson.pdf Fortuitously, it was at that very time that Field Marshal Sir William Robertson, pressured by Smuts and apparentlyhoping to appease South African political interests, relieved Hoskins of his command in East Africa and replaced him with an Afrikaner, Lieutenant General Louis Jacobus van Deventer. *107 *107. Hoskins was sent to command a division in Mesopotamia. Hodges, The Carrier Corps, 51; 62; 65–66 (see footnote 19); and Farwell, The Great War, 321–22. Also: http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/airchro...94/parsons.html Somaliland: In early 1919, Britain's War Office sent Maj Gen Sir Reginald Hoskins, commander in chief, East Africa, to Somalia to plan a campaign to resolve the situation once and for all. When the British government ruled that Hoskins's plan was too expensive, Royal Air Marshal Sir Hugh Trenchard proposed a plan that relied on the RAF to attack the mullah's forces. Trenchard's plan combined aerial punishment with ground-based "mopping-up" attacks by camel-mounted levies.
