Allan1892 Posted 3 May Share Posted 3 May Looking at this man's short service before he was transferred into the RAF on 1/4/1918, I can't make out where he was on the 28th and 29th December 1917 -- can anyone assist please? Admin DavidOwen Posted 3 May Admin Share Posted 3 May Perhaps as a Motor Driver he was chauffeuring some big wig down there for festivities?
horatio2 Posted 3 May Share Posted 3 May (edited) His trade was not a Motor Driver - so, not chauffeuring, as suggested.. He was in the very early weeks of his recruit training as an Air Mechanic (Engineer) and the syllabus often involved drafts away from the Crystal Palace Depot. He had already had a three-week draft down to RNAS Withnoe, Cornwall. However a late-week (Friday - Saturday) two-day draft to Devonport (??? or anywhere else for that matter) is hard to explain. The timing between Xmas and New Year is also odd and seasonal leave would not be recorded as a draft. Edited 3 May by horatio2
