rgalley Posted 1 May Share Posted 1 May A friend of mine is trying to find out more about why J R R Tolkien was in Bedford in 1915. All we know so far is that he had been required to report to a Col Tobin at 20 De Parys Avenue, Bedford on the 19th July 1915, having been commissioned into the Lancashire Fusiliers (11th?) earlier that month. Does anybody on the Forum have more information that they feel able to share? Thank you, in anticipation.

rgalley Posted 1 May Author Share Posted 1 May Thank you Terry. No mention of his time in Bedford but a very interesting article nonetheless.
Terry_Reeves Posted 1 May Share Posted 1 May (edited) I suspect Colonel Tobin was in charge of one of the signal training units. It was not unusual early in the war for large civilian houses to be rented to the War Office for use. TR Edited 1 May by Terry_Reeves
