Lively Posted 29 April Share Posted 29 April (edited) I have attached several screenshots of sub ratings I have come across whilst researching several naval records. I am assuming some of them, but you all know what assumption makes! As an example, I assume ERWC would be Engine Room Watch Certified. Am currently building a small database of these sub ratings, in aid of current and future men that I research. TM = Trained Man RT = Range Taker (?) ST = Seaman Torpedoman SG = Seaman Gunner GM = Gunners Mate GL - Gun Layer Edited 29 April by Lively

RNCVR Posted 29 April Share Posted 29 April (edited) GCB's = Good Conduct Badges - awarded after 3, 8, & 13 yrs Ex or Exy (Exemplary), or VG (Very Good) service. They had to have no offences to be awarded & retain these GCB's. They were paid a per diem rate for each GCB. RN ratings were also paid for each rate qualification a man attained thru his career, so if a rating, say, qualified as a SG2, & subsequently took the course to upgrade to SG1 he rec'd an raise in daily pay. He was also required to Requalify (Req'd) every so often to keep up to date on Gunnery improvements. Edited 29 April by RNCVR
